@nicole This is roughly as evil as the word "lisp" and the word "hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia". @aparrish

@phillip No joke, it worked amazingly... especially when I got to testing it in use. I could leave the phone to charge, anywhere in the house. Just use the phone normally. Come back to my computer in the evening, check the file I piped to, and see if anything unusual happened. @arrjay @jackryder @da_667

@phillip you think 93 printf statements is jank? I had one android app where I was working on making a hook based on charge percentage. The hook was to turn off a smart plug. To debug, I couldn't leave it on the debugger, because I needed the battery to discharge, and the over WiFi debugger is really spotty on my phone. It also had on (un)plugged hooks. Solution? Spin up built in python web server module, send it get requests with the log In the parameters. @arrjay @jackryder @da_667

#Heliboard gesture data project's first batch has been run through the arcane scripts I wrote.

I only had to discard <1% of the gestures; those were duplicates. No obviously fake data!

269,845 gestures, 500+ contributors.

Only ~60% of the gestures are some form of English.

The other most common languages are:
German
Polish
French
Russian
Arabic
Swedish
Italian

There are other languages, with fewer than 1000 gestures, but I don't know their codes by heart... I will map those later!

@aparrish @nelson well, if the LLM knows what the tests are, and you don't read the code it writes... You simply can't know it didn't write dedicated code paths for your tests.

@aparrish @nelson I would also say, ratcheting by tests is basically reinforcement learning, and you are effectively doing extra steps to add the possibility of a hill climbing solution with over fitting.

@aparrish @nelson I don't think it's enough to accept code is just a black box ratcheted by tests. If you look at the state of Claude code... It's really bad. Like worst case devolve to bogo sort bad... like store your credentials in plain text files because it can't guarantee it won't lose your credentials mid process bad. edit: Ratcheting by tests doesn't tell you about non-deterministic total failure in rare circumstances and it doesn't tell you about security.

@mrgrumpymonkey @aparrish you know, having a charger that is unable to force your phone to 100% I would consider a feature. That charger has got to be awesome for battery health. Unplug it around 80-90%, or whenever you get to it and find it can't charge more, and go on with your day. Most battery wear happens in that 90-100% range of charging, or in the 10-0% discharging. It generates more heat to use the battery in those conditions. Fast charging does the same.

@aparrish "this message is to remind you that you aren't wearing out the battery in your phone fast enough by using this charger. Please use a faster charger so it increases wear and forces you to replace your phone sooner."

@blog the other part about this for me is... What am I getting left behind in? Partaking in what I'm fairly confident a functioning legal system would consider intellectual property theft? I'll wait until that is ironed out, thanks. This is a bit of a hyperbolic example, but my mind immediately goes to slavery. Slavery wasn't legal in England when the transatlantic slave trade started... And yet people were partaking in it with no consequences. That never made it good and the law did return.

Trying a make a job posting in a DnD game I DM, for the players to track down and fight the poster.

Looking for an intern to work on improving the efficiency with which we feed realities to the Great Maw. Must have 10 years experience in optimising workflows for Armageddons. Must have at least 2 years experience at using Rube Goldberg machines to create extreme externalities while completing routine tasks.

We have beer after work on Fridays and dress casual in the office.

Anyone got better?

#Heliboard is gathering gesture typing data, so that we can implement a #FOSS alternative to the closed gesture typing library Heliboard currently relies on. The data we collect will be released under the CC BY-SA 4.0

I also made a video including details & instructions.

Boosts Please! The greater the diversity of people & languages in the data, the better we can test for correctness.
