This was posted 4 months ago, i.e. forever in LLM time. I would really like to see a fully-worked through analysis of the actual GHG cost of #GenAI in general and for coding applications specifically. Including, obviously, training, data centre infrastructure, silicon fabrication, etc.
The reason: I have trouble reconciling these numbers with the insane volumes of investment capital going into the space.

1. You have a Mac laptop with an outboard Bluetooth keyboard. It’s asleep.
2. You wake up the Mac by hitting the Touch ID on the laptop keyboard.
3. The Mac is annoyingly slow at starting to respond to keystrokes on the outboard. Several seconds, sometimes.
How to fix:
1. Hit any key on the BT keyboard. The Mac will start waking up.
2. Now hit the TouchID to get signed in.
3. Hey presto, the Mac is already listening to the BT.

I'm unable to find any confirmation of that supposed $120M investment in Bluesky. There was a story in Business Insider in January 2025 saying they were seeking investment on a $700M valuation. Does anyone have a link to solid evidence?

We've had a Roku player since 2012. Honestly can't remember whether I upgraded along the line. Anyhow it was getting crashy on a couple of streaming apps, enough to be hard to ignore. So I got the latest Ultra. Yay, less crashy. And cheap. But more or less zero difference in the experience. Further evidence that 4K and WiFi and HDMI may be end-state technologies.
The world needs more stable end-state technologies.

We just transitioned CoSocial from an ad-hoc combine of AWS, OVH, and DO to @fedihost@mstdn.social, see https://fedihost.co a Managed Fediverse Hosting outfit. Already feels faster, and should be cheaper too. Self-managed instances are cool but not, I suspect, the general-case future.
