Was trying to do some content warning testing to check some behaviour and make sure it did what I thought it did. The image just happened to be something I could upload and that was on this laptop!

@RoyS2025@mastodonapp.uk Looking back at some of your posts from the last few days I think you had set the content warning to "NSFW" and then in the post itself just typed "NSFW" which should still work. I'm not guessing the content warnings have always done this (As Mastodon is intended primarily as micro-blogging rather than photo sharing). I have raised it with the Mastodon devs anyway as it's not intuitive but if you just put anything in the body of the post like you had before it should work "Normally"

Just a quick note for #MastoAdmin 's using the #Universeodon Relay.
The relay is one of the last things to get moved now onto our new infrastructure, I'm about to start making the configuration changes and DNS updates which will mean our new load balancer infrastructure will start to serve requests for the relay as well as finally supporting IPv6 properly.
Later today I will then need to migrate the relay DB and config onto a new server so there will be a short outage later on to the relay while I do this.

@julian 100%, we've provided some links in our e-mail to resources for migrating in general, there's nothing we can do obviously to push accounts out to other instances and all we've done is stood up fedimedi.com because we wanted to be able to let folks move their posts (And Mastodon doesn't currently have a way to make that work). I've pointed folks to our other instances because obviously I know they're sticking around for a while where we're maintaining them.

For the #MedMastodon community -
I'm sending out an e-mail now, unfortunately despite repeated attempts since the 5th Jan of this year we've been unable to get control of the domain from the original founder of the site.
With that in mind and to ensure the site does not just fall off the internet without warning in the future, we're announcing the closure of med-mastodon.com and are asking all active and registered users to migrate to a new server as soon as it is practical to do so.
We have a new GoToSocial server setup to allow for imports of historic posts as well as our existing Mastodon servers that folks are more than welcome to join (Details on the e-mail).
We will keep the med-mastodon site running throughout March as a minimum and hopefully everyone will have migrated by this time but we will keep a close eye and if needed can renew the site for an additional month to facilitate migrations.
Sorry for the rubbish news, there is not a whole lot more we can do :(

I've just pushed a minor change to our infrastructure configuration for #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon - I'm hoping this should fix some of the weird issues we've seen around IPv6 and it does mean that if our primary HAproxy server does go down for any reason the secondary server will take on the IPv6 connectivity as well.
I do need to look and see if I can do something smart to cover some IPv6 monitoring as right now IPv6 can silently fail and the site will still show as fully healthy.

Not long until I get back to my home train station now after what has been a very long but very good day in London. It's been a lot of networking and talking to people (More than I had probably prepared myself for) so my social battery and desire to interact with other humans is almost 0 now I think!

I have updated the original post a couple of hours ago, back the last time that I had ran the comparisons (18 ish months ago I think) the pricing based on memory as the comparison anyway there were some plans we worked out cheaper on but having re-ran the numbers today the reality is OVH / Hetzner are always going to be cheaper.

If you're impacted by the #Hetzner price increase and just use unmanaged VPS's from them for your projects then it might be worth considering a migration elsewhere.
I've been running https://superior-networks.com since 2013 and it should work out a fair bit cheaper than Hetzner especially if all you're doing is running some VPS's. We offer hosting in London and France right now with our new Redditch (UK) location becoming available in the next couple of months. We've got plenty of capacity ready to provision and it's instant setup :)

I looked over the weekend at the price to buy an additional server and compared to when I placed the original order at the end of August last year it's over doubled in price entirely because the RAM has increased by around 400% in my case...

I really do hope we will start to see some great alternatives to Loops and Pixelfed cropping up in the coming years, it's exactly the sort of software I'd love to be hosting but after issues in relatively recently memory they aren't projects I could recommend or support.

Sorry for the blip there on #Universeodon (And then on both sites). It looks like our DB for Universeodon filled up and monitoring despite being configured seemingly doesn't alert on a lot of stuff right now which I now need to take a look at.
Our router also broke so DNS failed to resolve so I've had to give that a kick as well, we should be back up and running now :)

It looks like I'm going to need to drive up to the DC now because I can't reasonably apply my fix remotely without risking breaking everything and having to go up there anyway.

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe @tobybryans@mastodonapp.uk The price and value for money is a large part of why I'm seriously considering them as well as the fact they seem to just have more user configurable functionality which I think is part of what I'm struggling with on some of my unifi gear I've deployed (as well as constant stability issues with some of this gear).
Appreciate the insight, will continue to do my homework on it and see if purchasing some gear is the way forward!

I've just had confirmation from our DC provider that they have restarted the gateway router for us and that seems to have restored stability to the gateway as well as bringing the site back online after it totally failed at around 03:30 UK Time this morning.
I'm downloading the support bundles now and will be contacting Ubiquiti to understand why this so catastrophically failed.

It looks like the connectivity issues between #Universeodon and #MastodonAppUK are at least in part due to SideKiq and IPv6.
I've disabled IPv6 on SideKiq for the time being to at least let me try and get things back operational.
For now though it's very much past my bedtime and I need sleep!

A #SysAdmin / #MastoAdmin Question for folks
Has anyone used mikrotik hardware in anger / in production?
I've had enough now of my Unifi gear causing problems, this is the second gateway I've purchased which exhibits these random lock-ups / crashes and I'm very much over it so am looking at alternatives and mikrotik continues to be one that looks sensible.
Just curious if anyone has much experience using it hands on?

We're having some major issues this evening across #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon due to connectivity issues with our primary gateway router at our data center.
I'm waiting on some network monitoring info from our ISP but I'm starting to suspect this may be some sort of attack as I can't think of any other reason our router would be seemingly crashing regularly.
It seems as if the device comes online for a few seconds and then drops back off the internet.
Thankfully it doesn't seem to be actively impacting the sites themselves but our content processing is currently almost entirely offline due to issues with outbound connectivity.

Both domains have had more than a few recent reports which no action have been taken by the instances with relation to misinformation / anti-vax content and in the case of the second domain transphobia.

For #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon folks - I think I've finally got the IPv6 connectivity working again, I need to do some digging to see what caused it to drop it's address in the first place and have a load of work to get the secondary haproxy instance aligned and sync'd with the first one but I'm hoping this should mean we're now fully operational again and everything should be working :)

I've finally found the weird issue with the streaming service here on MastodonAppUK.
It looks like it's an issue with how we're verifying connectivity and access back to the underlying servers.
Now to try and figure out what's going on with IPv6 randomly breaking.

My #AppleWatch Saga has continued to the point today where I've now made a formal complaint about the entire repair process. I'm now being told they don't expect replacement stock to be available for my watch until the 16th which is the earliest it is now going to ship despite being originally told I'd have a new watch by the 5th. While every advisor I've spoken with has been lovely, the fact it's now going to be 3-4 weeks since I originally reported my apple watch had died while it's covered by AppleCare+ just makes the entire AppleCare product entirely worthless.
Apparently from speaking to one of the apple stores this is a common thing with Apple Watch and iPad's as they can't do any instore repairs or replacements any-more and it all has to be sent off and apple seemingly struggles to keep any stock of a 3 year old watch for repair / replacements...
Guess I'll just stick with the 2 year apple care next time and not let it renew monthly...

I'm actively working to get things back online properly but it seems to be breaking for some folks still. I've had a few reports that #MastodonAppUk and #Universeodon are playing up again with IPv6 since the maintenance I had to do yesterday which involved a full reboot of all our servers.
