The Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band (subtitled 20th and 30th Anniversary) is a live album by trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie that was recorded at the Berlin Jazz Festival in 1968 and released by MPS. The Allmusic review stated "This little-known LP actually contains one of Dizzy Gillespie's greatest performances of the 1960s... Although already 51, the trumpeter is heard at his best on this hard-to-find but essential LP" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkndLMqY9zs&list=RDjkndLMqY9zs&start_radio=1 #DizzyGillespie #MPS #Jazz #BigBand #Music #BerlinJazzFestival

Presenting Joe Williams and Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, the Jazz Orchestra is a 1966 big band jazz album recorded by Joe Williams with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and released on the Solid State Records label. Review by Scott Yanow Accompanied by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, the singer is heard at the peak of his powers. The big band primarily functions as an ensemble (Snooky Young gets off some good blasts on "Nobody Knows the Way I Feel This Morning"), but the inventive Thad Jones arrangements ensure that his illustrious sidemen have plenty to play. Many of the selections (half of which have been in the singer's repertoire ever since) are given definitive treatment on this set (particularly a humorous "Evil Man Blues," "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You," and "Smack Dab in the Middle"), and Williams scats at his best on "It Don't Mean a Thing." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeNn4JqOZ8A&list=OLAK5uy_mQWlXcOTk-X3S6U3aOctsTXxNI9BPV81M #JoeWilliams #ThadJones #MelLewis #BigBand #Jazz #VocalJazz #Music #SoildState #BlueNote

The Kenton Era is a compilation album by pianist and bandleader Stan Kenton featuring recordings from 1940 to 1954 which was originally released in two limited edition box sets, as fifteen 7 inch 45 rpm discs and four 12 inch LPs, on Capitol in 1955. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow states "Kenton is heard reminiscing about his first 15 years in the business, there are some selections taken from his famous 1941 stint at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa, CA, numbers from rehearsals in 1944, radio airchecks dating from 1944-48, some startling performances by Kenton's Innovations orchestra of 1950-51 and a few swinging numbers from his 1952-53 big band. Virtually all of the music is rare, making this an essential acquisition for collectors" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQXigaogYu4&list=RDKQXigaogYu4&start_radio=1 #StanKenton #Jazz #BigBand #Swing #ProgressiveJazz #Music

Colors In Rhythm by Mercer Ellington And His Orchestra , released on Coral in 1959. One of the few full band albums ever recorded by Mercer Ellington – a strong 50s session that features work by Billy Strayhorn, Clark Terry, Cat Anderson, Jimmy Jones, Jimmy Hamilton, and other luminaries from the Duke Ellington group. Arrangements are by Jones, Ellington, Dick Vance, and Luther Henderson – and the tunes have a rich tonal quality that well lives up to the "colors" in the title. Titles include "Coral Rock", "Black & Tan Fantasy", "Aqua Tonic", "Little White Lies", "Golden Cress", "Azure", "Blue Serge", and "Dawn Of A Greenhorn" - Dusty Groove https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA4465-T_Rk&list=RDsA4465-T_Rk&start_radio=1 #MercerEllington #Jazz #BigBand #DukeEllington #Music #Swing #BillyStrayhorn #CatAnderson

The Return Of The Doodletown Fifers by Sauter-Finegan And Their Orchestra, released on United Artists Ultra Audio in 1960. The Sauter-Finegan Orchestra was an American swing jazz band popular in the 1950s. The orchestra was led by Eddie Sauter and Bill Finegan, who were both experienced big band arrangers. Sauter played mellophone, trumpet, and drums, and had attended Columbia University and Juilliard; Finegan had studied at the Paris Conservatory. They began recording together in 1952, using inventive arrangements that made use of a variety of unusual instruments, including many orchestral instruments as well as oddities like the kazoo and the beaten human chest. In 1957 the 20 members of the band played 90 instruments, including flute, piccolo, oboe, English horn, bass clarinet, and harp. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maB0n_ndEaM&list=RDmaB0n_ndEaM&start_radio=1 #SauterFinegan #BigBand #Swing #Jazz #Music

Stepping Into Swing Society (Songs Composed By Duke And Mercer Ellington) by Mercer Ellington, released in 1959 on Coral. £Until Stepping into Swing Society, by Mercer Ellington's orchestra, was released in 1959, many jazz fans were scarcely aware that Duke had a talented son with a career of his own. Billy Strayhorn, Wendell Marshall, and John Sanders worked for Mercer before their jobs with Duke. His next album, Colors in Rhythm, along with its predecessor, were Mercers definitive introduction as a band-leader. The arrangements here are by such Ellington disciples as Mercer, Luther Henderson, Dick Vance, Andy Gibson Jimmy Hamilton, Billy Strayhorn, and Jimmy Jones...." Kenton / Wagner is an album by the Stan Kenton Orchestra performing jazz arrangements of Richard Wagner's compositions recorded in 1964 and released by Capitol Records. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow noted "Somehow Kenton turns Wagner's music into jazz, capturing the intense emotion, pomposity and drama with daring ideas. Not for all tastes, this LP was one of Stan Kenton's last innovative recordings" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY2jOONTElU&list=RDjY2jOONTElU&start_radio=1 #StanKenton #Wagner #BigBand #Swing #ThirdStream #Jazz #Music
