Intanto la Francia, abile a partorire e lanciare talenti, può già vincere il torneo The Azzurri (Italian national rugby team) in an English trial: a success to dream of a podium place in the Six Nations. There’s the smell of spring, of ambition to climb, and a “surprise”: beating Rosa (it’s never happened in 35 years) means aiming for the top of the standings after 18 silver spoons, 6 fifths, and 2 fourth place finishes. For the first time Italians and English face each other at the same level (5 points): the gap is getting tighter. The Italians score little and receive a lot, but they’ve become competitive in the ordered fray. Meanwhile, France, skilled at giving birth and launching talent, can already win the tournament. #Italian #English #theSixNations #fourth #first #Italians #France https://www.editorialedomani.it/sport/sei-nazioni-rugby-italia-prova-inghilterra-sogno-podio-cwb28c92

L'Huffington Post - News, inchieste e approfondimenti HuffPost: Jane Wenham, una delle ultime donne inglesi condannate per stregoneria L'ANGOLO DEI BLOGGER. L’accusa nacque da chiacchiere dei vicini e dalla convinzione che fosse stata lei a causare un decesso, e che le prove prodotte furono del tipo “parla con il gatto” o “si libra in volo”. Sebbene il giudice si mostrò scettico, fu lo stesso condanata a morte. Poi ottenne la grazia Jane Wenham, one of the last English women convicted of witchcraft. THE BLOGGER’S CORNER. The accusation arose from neighborhood gossip and the belief that she had caused a death, and that the evidence presented was of the “talk to the cat” or “it flies in circles” type. Although the judge was skeptical, it was the woman herself who was condemned to death. Then she obtained a pardon. #JaneWenham #English https://www.huffingtonpost.it/blog/2026/03/04/news/jane_wenham_una_delle_ultime_donne_condannate_per_stregoneria-21347428/

Courtesy: Senato Fonte: Agenzia Vista / Alexander Jakhnagiev War in Iran, Tajani: "Israel and the US did not warn us." “I want to state clearly: The United States and Israel decided independently and in secrecy when to intervene. The French and English reported publicly that they had not received any prior warnings. We, as Germans and Poles, were informed after the operation began. As I have reported to the Prime Minister, I was contacted by Israeli Foreign Minister Saar, who informed me of what was happening,” said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during the briefing to the Senate on the situation in Iran. How far back in time can you understand English? It’s a thousand years of the English language, compressed into a single blog post. "... as his post goes on, his language gets older. A hundred years older with each jump. The spelling changes. The grammar changes. Words you know are replaced by unfamiliar words, and his attitude gets older too, as the blogger’s voice is replaced by that of a Georgian diarist, an Elizabethan pamphleteer, a medieval chronicler." https://www.deadlanguagesociety.com/p/how-far-back-in-time-understand-english #english #language

Today’s fun English suffix is “-age”, a very flexible nounifier. “-age” can be stuck on a verb to mean “the thing that is verbed”. Luggage, coverage, appendage, wreckage. It can be stuck on a verb to mean “the place where verb happens”. Storage, carriage, anchorage. It can be stuck on an adjective or even another noun to abstract the word’s core concept. Shortage, postage, percentage, roughage, leverage. It can go on a concrete noun to refer to the noun’s quality collectively. Peerage, sewerage (all the pipes), footage (length of film), mileage. Then there are words which look like they might have an “-age” suffix but it’s just a coincidence. Sausage, message, advantage. #etymology #english #language

I received a letter from the #UK #government Department of Work & Pensions (#dwp) recently. It was sent to my old address and had arrived thanks to the forwarding service of #RoyalMail. They told me I couldn't do it online due to one of the answers I gave, so I made a phone call. After 30 minutes of repeatedly being told they knew I was #waiting it was great to speak to a human with a thoroughly #English accent. I could understand her and enjoy a little chit chat. Since my #teenage #years I've been known by my middle name. That's common in Ireland, I was told. She confessed to having Irish relatives in her family. But to the point of this toot! I really should have told her that #Google reckons the number I rang belongs to a company called "Funerals on a Budget". After the call a dialogue appeared asking me if I could confirm they had the correct information. I was so busy #laughing I managed to close the #dialogue before answering.
