Hey, Mastodon gurus! Apparently the #KC region is in for some severe weather this afternoon. I saw some folks talking about NWS twitter clones here on the Masto. Today @Jillianmarisa@vmst.io and I made it back out to the park to check in on the boxes. 2/5 have eggs 🥰. The rest are occupied by (so far) not aggressive wasps. Yay conservation results in action. So happy! #NestWatch #EasternBluebird #Missouri #KC #Bluebird #Conservation #MasterNaturalist

It was supposed to be sunny today. It is thus far, not. However the still 100% cloud coverage is the thinnest it has been all week, except for a few very brief Sol Peekaboos yesterday. Sooooo. A nice IBEW fella came, knocked on the door said we’d have a small blip in power while he confirmed the install AND added the extra meter. Today we formally add solar to the list of things we harvest here at #MacJohnsonFarm, phase 3. Exporting power even with it being super cloudy out. As a human I reserve the right to complain about the weather anytime it deviates from the my very narrow 30-40 degree (f) comfort window. And to be particularly loathesome when the weather is misaligned to my schedule, or whims. That said, after weeks of having bad weather weekends followed by beautiful Mondays I need to acknowledge that the weather yesterday was chef's kiss perfect. First nice Saturday in memory. And for that, I'm thankful. #KC #KCwx #Missouri #KCish

Last night well after sunset I got the temporary modular fence installed to protect the #CrocusLawn #BulbLawn from the rabbits. The holes are too big, I’ll fix that with chicken wire backing. Seems to have had a bit of deterrent last night. Third photo is another crocus lawn in our neighborhood I spotted today. Crazy how far behind first years are from established. Same thing happened at the old place. #KC #Missouri #Crocus #Gardening #Zone6B

As I spent too much time making my mockup I realized I likely would have been better off had I went horizontally as shown here. I really don’t think our local bunnies are likely to jump an 18 inch fence. #CrocusLawn #BulbLawn #KC #Missouri #Crocus #Gardening #Zone6B

I happened to have six handy panels for another project on hand. So after work I enjoyed the beautiful weather and chopped them up into three ~2ft x ~4ft sections, taking care to leave some cut wire protrusions to press into the ground like built in stakes. #CrocusLawn #BulbLawn #KC #Missouri #Crocus #Gardening #Zone6B

Last night the rabbits went to town on our #CrocusLawn. I thought things looked off this morning, but brushed it off. It's been nagging on me all day so I did a screenshot comparison from our security cameras... Nothing less than a massacre. An army of pests creeping in the night doing their dirty deeds. Crocus aren't native. And we Naturalists like to say, if something's not eating your stuff, then it's not part of the ecosystem. But I'm not willing to sacrifice 100% to feed an insatiable overpopulation w/ little predator pressure here in the 'burbs. This means war. #BulbLawn #KC #Missouri #Crocus #Gardening #Zone6B

Oh, hey! It's beautiful out today with a high of 58. Tomorrow's high is 62. Friday it'll be 74. But don't worry. It'll be cold and maybe snowy for the weekend. Again. SMH! #KC #KCWx PS: I don't mind the cold, it's cold season. I mind nice weather during the week that turns to crap by the weekend before getting great Monday and doing that cycle over and over again.
