A Natural Woman is a 1969 album by Peggy Lee. It was arranged and conducted by Bobby Bryant and Mike Melvoin. John Engstead took the cover photograph. Review by John Bush A Natural Woman was her most successful fusion yet, thanks to the work of arrangers/conductors/upstarts Mike Melvoin and Bobby Bryant (neither of whom were true youngsters, though Melvoin had apparently gleaned much from session work with the Beach Boys, Curt Boettcher, and Judy Collins)...Lee does perform a superb version of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" (Newman actually arranged "Is That All There Is?"), and utterly transforms the one standard from an earlier era, Billie Holiday's classic "Don't Explain.".. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxF7V56mmxc&list=RDBxF7V56mmxc&start_radio=1 #PeggyLee #RandyNewman #60sPop #Soul #VocalJazz #BobbyBryant #MikeMelvoin #FemaleSinger #Music

#NowPlaying #FalsettoFriday #soul #LutherVandross - "Take You Out" (2001) I don't always love this man's material, but I'll never fail to give props to his velvet tenor - especially when it's this song and he's improvising with a little #falsetto. For once, #JayZ and I agree: this is a late-life Luther stone classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqJtgjsruj8

Ya! Ya! by Lee Dorsey, released on Fury Records in 1962. Review by Greg Adams Lee Dorsey, the world's funkiest auto mechanic, topped the R&B charts in 1961 with "Ya Ya," a bit of bubblegum soul arranged by Allen Toussaint that exemplifies the sound of his early-'60s Fury recordings. Dorsey was an important and commercially successful product of the New Orleans R&B scene with a sound as distinctive as Fats Domino, and one look at the track list of Ya! Ya! tells you everything you need to know: "Eenie Meenie Mini Mo," "Ixie Dixie Pixie Pie," "Chin Chin," "Yum Yum" (et cetera). Uncluttered grooves, economical horn riffs, playground rhymes, and Dorsey's unmistakable voice add up to an appealingly simple formula that yielded one of the most enduring oldies of its era and its similar but lower-charting follow-up, "Do-Re-Mi." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_RcbQJFDlw&list=PLNLTyTGPykYgTRaqDHBifMLwuMJT5Jjh0&index=1 #LeeDorsey #AllenToussaint #NewOrleans #Soul #Music

How Do You Say I Don't Love You Anymore was Freda Payne's second American album (following a release in Sweden with Don Gardner), released May 28, 1966. Although regarded primarily as a jazz album, there are also several covers of pop songs featured, including the Beatles' hit "Yesterday," "Let It Be Me," the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "Feeling Good," and "If You Love Me (Really Love Me)." - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzvhooO8VM0&list=PLLdI8LhF-55cJKNGhxeJxJoQewNBE4MBE&index=1 #FredaPayne #Jazz #Soul #Music #Covers #FemaleSinger #VocalJazz

Main Man by Oliver Sain, released on Abet in 1972. Oliver Sain Jr. (March 1, 1932 – October 28, 2003)[1] was an American saxophonist, songwriter, bandleader, drummer and record producer, who was an important figure in the development of rhythm and blues music, notably in St Louis, Missouri. He set up his own recording studio, Archway, in St Louis in 1965, and recorded and produced artists such as the Montclairs and Julius Hemphill, developing "a distinctively full, dynamic sound that would come to help define the St. Louis soul aesthetic." He released his first album, Main Man, in 1972.. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1JKvW3Cep0 #OliverSain #StLouis #RhythmandBlues #Jazz #Soul #Music
