I know I have ranted about this before, but: now I am running across entire websites with "folktales" that don't exist, referencing sources that also don't exist.
Why is it a problem, you ask? A story is a story?
No. Not if it is assigned to an actual existing culture. If it is claimed to represent the heritage of an indigenous tradition. Oral tradition is endangered already in many ways. We don't need AI to enshittify this.

Random childhood memory:
"Tree of Knowledge" was a weekly #science magazine for kids in the '00s. It had chapters on animals, plants, phenomena etc. that you could collect in a binder.
My grandparents ordered it for my cousin, but asked me to do the organizing.
I thought it was incredibly cool and I wanted my own. So I copied the list of chapters, and then I pulled all the nature books in the house, and started compiling my own entries for each...
It was my first #research project 😄

Speaking as someone living in Hungary, to friends in the #USA:
The greatest weapon the system has is outrage fatigue. Doing so many unimaginable things at the same time that people just sigh and go on. Having so many things to protest that you run out of days and hours. Piling on so you start focusing on surviving with your bare mental health day to day.
Pick your cause and stick to it. Support others who focus on different causes. Don't try to do everything at once.
