By the way, after the giant price hikes of the past few years, #cocoa is now too cheap again and is literally rotting on the fields as it doesn't pay enough to put in the hard work of actually harvesting it. The invisible hand at work. Le sigh. (From around US$2500/to in 2022/23 to US$11000/to at its peak in 2025, now back to around US$3000/to)

So according to Trump Iran could have somehow bought a Tomahawk missile on the black market (I guess?) and fired that on a school, killing their own children. This is of course a ridiculous story that no one but Trump falls for, but it also means that yes, the school was hit by a Tomahawk missile and the US leadership knows it. Observation: with the beginning of the war against Iran, botnets more or less stopped attacking my mailserver. From typically 300–500 IP addresses per day it's now less than 5 since a week. Indicates that maybe quite some C&C (Command and Control) servers were operating from Iranian IP addresses and fell victim to the internet shutdown there.

Ich bin amtierender #Betriebsrat und auch wieder Kandidat für die nächste Wahl. Ich kann nur jedem raten zumindest bei der Wahl mitzumachen. Oder selbst KandidatIn zu werden. 90% of phishing emails hitting my mailserver are now from Google IPv6 addresses and the phishing sites they link to are mostly (80%) behind cloudflare, the rest mostly behind Amazon. I have been reporting 300+ of these in the past two weeks but neither Google, Cloudflare, Amazon seem to care. I already catch 100% of them so I am not worried, mainly annoyed.

The German greens in the EU parliament that voted FOR sending EU-Mercosur to the EU court together with far-right members of the EU parliament now welcome the commission's decision to enact the EU-Mercosur trade agreement in a provisional way. European Commission enacts the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, not waiting for the court check the EU parliament voted for. I welcome this development. The, in my opinion, misguided and populist vote by the parliament made the EU look weak and incapable of making decisions. The populists will now claim that the commission acts like dictators, ignoring democracy. That’s just the way this goes.

Life is complicated. You cannot compare spot market price for RAM, SSDs, NVME with the negotiated prices in long-term agreements that manufacturers make with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers). Spot market prices can jump around wildly, long-term commitments typically move a LOT slower. So all the doomsday scenarios on how the current spot market prices will make smartphones etc totally explode in price are just that. Scenarios, projections, guesswork. Stay calm and continue with your life.

Dutch artist Teun Castelein rented 4 barrel organs to play the Ukrainian anthem in front of the Russian embassy in The Hague (The Netherlands) for a full day, on the day the war started. 4 barrel organs for 4 years of war. They each produce 120 decibels of volume.

Don't fall for the clickbait. #Hetzner raises prices significantly for dedicated and virtual servers, starting 2026-04-01, but it's not the often claimed 36%.
I did the math based on the numbers at https://docs.hetzner.com/general/infrastructure-and-availability/price-adjustment/
UPDATE: Total average: 23.8%, minimum 2,9%, maximum 36,5%. Cloud/virtual servers +30% on average, dedicated servers +14% on average,
So yes, a significant jump. But not as simple as 36% on everything.

Observation: Google is currently the biggest spreader of phishing mails, Cloudflare hides/hosts the phishing sites these mails link to. That's the simple truth on my mailserver since a few weeks. And yes, I manually report every single one of them to no visible avail.

ADDENDUM: I say "observe". I am not judging myself or others. I am not (yet) sure if this is a good or bad thing. But the stoic local-first makes me feel better. About myself, my surroundings and the bigger picture. Accepting that I cannot change the world at large but that we as local citizens can definitely change our little corner of the world is helpful. I am aware of the risk of exclusion and isolation that comes with this approach. Keeping it open thus becomes the real challenge. 3/3

I see a lot of anger motivated posts, from people claiming they really hate something. I also see posts from people that absolutely love something (and most of them are honest and fun to read, some very few try to sell me something). what is completely missing however are meh posts. Where people say that while something isn't as wonderful as they want it to be, it still gets the job done so all is good. So. Post more meh stuff :) The world isn't binary :) Let's call it #MehPost

TIL (Today I learned): The typefaces Eurostile/Microgramma and Handel Gothic are not only used by Casio on many watches and calculators from the 1970s to at least the 1990s, these typefaces are also used in many (and I mean MANY) science fiction movies and TV series. Vorschlag: Die Nebenverdienste der Bundestagsabgeordneten werden genau so auf die Diäten angerechnet wie es beim Bürgergeld passiert. Im Wiederholungsfall werden Diäten komplett gestrichen und das Mandat muss abgegeben werden. Gleiches Recht für alle.
