I’m unpacking the WHY I have such resistance to using timers and schedules to manage my ADHD outside of work.
It’s part ego, part internalized ableism and part anxiety triggering
In short: a part of me feels I have less value for needing to use a tool at all, and the tool itself makes me feel anxious that I’ll still mess up so I self sabotage and resist or don’t even try and then “fail” again gah!😖

I’m having a hard time accepting I need to live my life by timers. It makes me feel broken and anxious, so I resist using them and then the issue reoccurs.
Sounds like I need to push through the feelings and accept I need help and that it’s ok.
Like I’d feel like it’s ok for anyone else to use them. Did/do you feel shame or anxiety for actively living with timers?

@NicelyManifest definitely! They are shaping the moment but aren’t the moment.
I often remind myself (again, when I catch myself!) that emotions last 90 seconds and than we hold on to them.
I don’t know of all that in detail but it keeps me mindful that it’s like choosing to continue in each moment and there is always a point I can stop it and change things.
I shape my reality and that feels better and more powerful than letting my autopilot pass by. Reading about IFS helps

Another change in my thinking that’s been helpful for me :
If I am doing something that doesn’t go as expected, my automatic reaction is to call myself “stupid”
When this happens now - and I catch it - I change it to “silly” to extend myself compassion.
Silly is no big deal after all! 😊😉
Making this change has meant “stupid” is showing up less and less and silly more and more.
I feel better in those moments than I used to feel 🥰

It’s so weird seeing American folks worried about the drop in Canadian tourism and saying it’s due to Canadians having “hard feelings” and wondering why we can’t just put them aside.
It’s gaslighting and yet another reason not to go. Yeesh. 🙄

Today I dealt with a student using “gay” as an insult.
To be fair to the kid, I see grown adult men using gay as an insult right here on the fediverse.
(Especially when attempting to insult male politicians that they don’t like.)
Men on here are too often homophobic and I’m tired of it.
It’s not an insult to be queer and if you use gay/queer as a joke/insult then you are part of the problem and not here for equality.
Your words have impact.
Do better.
