Is there a country other than your own that influences your creativity?

Call me a weeaboo, but Japan. I watch a lot of anime and it informs how I picture scenes, especially fight scenes, in my own writing - and influences my story structure which tends to be quite episodic.

Japanese culture influences my other creative outlet too, cookery. Just got two new Japanese recipe books and I can't wait to try some dishes out.

#PennedPossibilities 949 — How do you manage stress related to writing? By...not writing? I don't know, it's hard especially in fanfic spaces where there's such a constant stream of writing from other people, and a subtle pressure to put stuff out there. But, I'm trying to rediscover writing as a fun thing, not a thing I feel like I need to do. It's not my job, it's a hobby and I'm not trying to grow an audience. So, trying to write what I want when I want, and not when I don't.

It is hard, especially in fandom spaces where there's a subtle pressure to keep putting out new stuff, and some people manage to write so much. But I guess not caring? In a good way, I mean. I'll write what I want when I feel in the mood to write, and not when I don't. It definitely means I have lower engagement, but that's where the not caring bit comes in. If two or three people enjoy what I write, that's good enough for me.

Every episode of the current campaign has made me laugh and cry. It's a commitment though, weekly eps are like 3.5 hours long, so we watch them over the course of a weekend :)

Went out last night with @robincrow@bardicperspiration.club, saw pretty people in not much clothing demonstrating incredible upper body strength (single-hand handstands while spinning metal hoops with her legs whaaaat???). And maaaaay have spoken to someone about pole dance lessons. Because apparently that's who I'm becoming...and I don't hate it. Tired today obvs, so chilling and writing, watching Critical Role (do I know anyone else watching the current campaign? I neeeed to nerd about it!) and generally resting. Love hearing trans rights dismissed as a "contentious political issue that we don't want to take sides on" in a fkn EDI meeting. If this is the attitude among people who are supposed to be promoting equality, imagine how much worse the general workplace culture is. Of course I gave them my politest work-appropriate rage but now I'm fizzing with anxiety and stress.

Saw a "script in hand" read of a new play based on Nikita Gill's book "Hekate" at the BL this weekend and it was amazing. Gill herself played Hekate and was transcendent, it felt like my goddess was being embodied on stage. And afterwards she thanked the witches and pagans in the audience! Definitely get a copy of the book if you're Hekatean or just into mythology. And look out for the full stage production when it eventually appears! #Hekate
