@h4890 @ChrisMayLA6 It's much much worse than that. The money comes from everywhere, not just petro states. I have plenty of first hand knowledge as a chair of a residents' association networked w many others. In my former block in London there were flats owned by Greeks with money hidden from the taxman, among others, and currently one flat is incurring massive service charge debt because Indian "owner" (via Cayman Island Co) is in jail for fraud. Guess who pays? Taxpaying Londoners.

It's been done before at Shannon airport by protestors, including nuns. They were prosecuted for criminal damage and the jury declined to convict despite the offence being freely admitted. Better to recognise the damage to US reputation before the Irish simply close airports to all US military flights entirely.

Brexit has made no difference. A proposal by an arch clown politician in the UK to (Jacob Rees Mogg, aka the minister for the 18th century) revert to Imperial units was essentially laughed out of town.

The duopoly won't last forever. In 2027 Motorola (now owned by Lenovo) will ship phones running GrapheneOS (based on Android open source) which will likely run banking apps. If they don't, someone else will. The EU can also regulate to make it a requirement, like USB C. We are not doomed.

@jessamyn I still have the hardback from when it was first published and, although I never used a DG computer, always felt the book was an iconic snapshot of the industry, of America (being great) with it, and of, course, the cast of characters. I will re-read with nostalgia. It meant a lot to me (DEC user at the time w a lot of respect for rivals).
Winced at the "He's married?" story. Work/life fallout the too often hidden price of success. Nothing lasts forever... but glory endures. Respect!

Many well intentioned but profoundly naive people voted in favour thinking doing so would help protect children from child pornography /creators and disseminators of same.
The idea that ANY content an authoritarian govt wanted to track or inhibit sharing of could be targeted was rejected, likewise the idea that govts would abuse the capabilities (*despite Europe's history*). Because safeguards always work. 🙄

Might be an idea to do some reading about the history the organization instead of projecting your own preferences. A key reason for Brexit was British pig-ignorance about the EU.

He is well aware that billionaire oligarchs may well provoke a 2nd American revolution and this is why he has secured both citizenship and a bolthole in New Zealand.
