Mastodon is 100% the early days of social media all over. Some of you will already be familiar with this story. My weather station (a very nice Netatmo that has served very well) crapped out after nearly 10 years of excellent service. I asked for recommendations here for a new station that would play nicely with #HomeAssistant, and hopefully, also HomeKit. I received *many* recommendations, with Ecowitt (and the brands it manufactures for) taking the lead. A connection on here offered me their *unopened* Ecowitt weather station for a very generous price. It arrived yesterday, and I set it up, and it's already doing a great job. Works offline, talks to Home Assistant without any problems. I just need to do a couple of bits of configuration jiggery-pokery and it will pass data to HomeKit. This is very much how things were when I first joined Twitter in 2007. In spite of attempts at #enshittification of everything, the #fediverse is putting up a good fight. May your day online be as satisfying as mine was yesterday.

I've been working on custom #MCP tools to better tie my stuff together. It's connected to the Assist functionality in #HomeAssistant allowing me to do things like: - add items to grocery/personal/household to-do lists. - check or update quantities of items in my #HomeBox inventory - ask for weather forecasts for anywhere #selfhost #homelab #llm #ai

So it looks like Unifi released an update to protect that targets this issue with Home Assistant. "Fixed an issue where motion events were not working in Home Assistant." Learned recently that in a #HomeAssistant automation you can add a line of code in the YAML that will prevent the automation from exiting if it encounters an error. This is useful for actions that might not always work because of an unexpected state, but you still want it to go through the list without adding extra checks. In my case, my Taskmaster Tidbyt Flight automation was failing to remove the screen because the app was not active in the first Tidbyt in the sequence. Adding continue_on_error: true fixed this https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/scripts/#continuing-on-error

Ich habe derzeit einige Heizungsthermostate von #Fritz und von #tapo Glühbirnen, Schalter, Sensoren und kameras. ich würde gern bei den Heizungsthermostaten auf tapo/kasa umsteigen ich finde die marke Preis-Leistungs technisch gut. I got my hands on a (apparently bricked) uugear Vivid Unit board today. Rockchip RK3399 5 inch touchscreen. Have now managed to get the bare OS working again, except it's Debian Bullseye and there's no straightfoward upgrade path. Could be a nice #homeassistant control panel, but would be great to be able to update it. Board is a strange mix of Android and Linux stuff though.

I found out through Home Assistant that my homes humidifier was failing. After looking into it, the valve was seized. Replaced it and now back in business. This is why I like monitoring the home. #HomeAssistant

Zoals velen heb ik nog een verwarmingssysteem met radiatoren en een ketel, maar ik ben ontevreden over mijn Netatmo aansturing daarvan. Ik heb nu een thermostaat / ketelkoppeling (2-draads) en 4 radiatorknoppen. Ik wil ook beslist van de cloudkoppeling af. Wat zoek ik: een (liefst FOSS-gebaseerd) systeem dat lokaal met knoppen en een thermostaat werkt. Het allerliefst geïntegreerd met #HomeAssistant . En dus géén cloud, géén BigTech en betaalbaar. Iemand die me de gouden tip kan geven?

Another Home Assistant tip I learned today. I was so upset when the took away the homeassistant.log. Here is how you can get it back. On the CLI run these 3 commands. ha core options --duplicate-log-file=true ha core rebuild ha core restart You are welcome! #HomeAssistant

every other month I have to throw my 30 amp heat pump breaker because it powers my #ecobee "smart" thermostat. there is no way to reboot the device otherwise. rebooting the device is the only way to get it to resync with my #homeassistant. #internetofshit
