@commonst@social.vivaldi.net I love it that making bone broth has become one of the things that I do every 2-3 months, with the assorted vegetable ends and carcasses in my freezer. Sometimes, I buy a beef marrow bone to add. The frozen cubes are so excellent to add to almost anything that I cook.

@integral_toast@mstdn.ca My parents were very realistic and proactive about their shifting abilities, moving to spaces where transit was good and services were available. My dad kept his car until his death at 97, but he found younger people to drive it for him when he needed to get things. I'm trying to do the same, living right on Whyte, where all essential services are within a kilometre of my place. I love my car, a 2003 Matrix, but I've said for a long time that it's my final car.

However, I considered the mandatory presence in a massive-open-cubicle workspace every day, and I turned that down. I managed my marking and lesson prep SO much better from the comfort of my chair at home, during blocks of time when I had fewer interesting options available. And, I loved the free time during dayligt hurs when I did that!

I don't know if the author writes in Korean, but I'd be interested to try reading it in that language. I just finished The Second Chance Convenience Store. So far, it's the best of the "cozy" Korean novels that I've read. I don't think that the genre is really my thing, but there was some interesting awareness in the book, and the scenes were familiar from my travels last spring.

When I saw another veg curry class, I registered immediately, without confirming that it conflicts with my regular teaching time. If interested, let me know, and you can just sign in as me. Even when a dish is familiar to me, I love taking these classes because I always learn something new. As well, there are usually a LOT of leftovers that you are welcome to bring home.

I got out for a walk to the farmers' market in today's spring conditions. The trees are budding, the grass is showing, and the magpies and crows are getting noisy. Winter is due to return in a big way on Tuesday. We usually have seasonal fluctuations, but our 2-week spell of weather above freezing isn't ordinary in February.

I got very agitated this morning trying to recover my Apple password in order to update my software. An endlessly patient customer service rep walked me through everything, and it turned out that I just needed my DEVICE password, not my Apple password. It's unlikely that this is the last time I'll make this particular mistake. Meanwhile, I have new passcodes on my phone. Argh!

I'm really appreciating my new routine of visiting the market every week or 2. Time will tell whether or not this is affordable. There is a Korean jeweller who really appreciates me stopping by to greet her. Today was Happy New Year because it's Seollal in Korea.

Time for some #kdrama now.

The element that is eluding me is potassium. I cannot understand how anyone can achieve the RDA, even with a steady diet of potatoes and bananas. And obviously, that would create other nutrient deficiencies.

My previous life had a lot more physical activity, but the combo of returning to Canada, a global pandemic, WFH, and then retirement all contributed to a basically sedentary lifestyle. Since I bought an #AppleWatch in September, my activity has dramatically increased, and my various health markers have improved considerably. I've been like a company salesperson since observing the results. Luckily, I've never smoked.

@Apiary@mastodon.social I wish that I felt confident enough about my balance to keep skating, but with worries about bone density, it's no longer on my list. Part of the problem is that I had extended periods away from the ice. Whenever I returned, I knew that I'd be safer if I went faster, but I would start out too fearful to skate quickly. Outdoor skating is a lovely way to experience winter!

@TheConversationUS@newsie.social I'm having great success with this approach, keeping track of what I eat, and particularly noting nutrition information about my choices. I've eaten and enjoyed a wide range of foods while losing weight. It's been much more efficient than any diet I've tried, and I see myself sustaining this. One helpful thing is that I'm getting 30 minutes of exercise most days.

It would be nice if the information about online voting for the leader were a little clearer. Obviously, only a fraction of the party members will attend a national conference. Gorgeous day yesterday! The temps were near freezing by later afternoon. I was SO excited to use the Coronation Park Sports and Leisure Centre on opening day! It's the only triathlon training facility in North America now. I panicked about the huge, new, lovely building, afraid that meant that the gorgeous swimming pool, built in 1970, had been destroyed. Instead, it is linked by a 50m walkway, with the stunning, brand new facility for athletic training and community use. IMHO, this pool is the loveliest one that I've ever had the opportunity to use. The 50m pool has a massive, sweeping window that covers the entire south side, wrapping around to the east and the west. No better place to be on a snowy, sunny day. Although the parking lot and facility were jammed, there was ample space for pool running or swimming. Serious swimmers flock to the centre lanes. My pool visit was followed by a funeral for the husband of one of my sewing group women. Good to see everyone while I'm not making the trek in the winter.
