mastodon 4.5.2

Any neo-pronouns or he/him if you must.
Not new, I've just had bad luck with main instance picking.
Boosts are seldom a reflection of what I think of the person posting (because I don't check unless I see red flags), but usually a reflection of what I think of the post itself.
I'd prefer people I haven't interacted with yet don't tag me out of nowhere (but replies are usually fine).

@cap_ybarra @lechimp @tante yeah :/ unfortunately I'm gonna have to agree with this here. If anyone hasn't heard enough to sway them against AI by now, they're probably not going to read the source code for Claude. I'm not going to either, because I've already made up my mind on the software (I hate it, tbc). So have the people using it, so why would they put more effort into knowing how bad the code is than I will?

Spoons allowing, I'm gonna do a music stream tomorrow! I'll be coding background music in Strudel, and I'll sing some songs if the vibes are right :blobCat_uwu_smile: it'll be on https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCRsZcyu75-zdaufo_TbPYTA (with a pretty different style than the old videos on there lol, I've grown up a bit and I'm leaning towards punk or emo these days depending on the song)

Start time ~5pm/17:00 PDT

#music #musicStream #liveCoding #strudel #tidalCycles

Any guitar* players on fedi with EDS or painful hypermobility? Do y'all have advice on how to cause less pain when I practice/perform? So far I've been switching sides, which seems to help with the long-term pain of always playing "right-handed," but I still end up in pain on whichever side of my neck/shoulders the fretboard was on.
*Or bass guitar, banjo, pretty much anything on a guitar strap

@PepperTheVixen @fullfathomfive is facial recognition something that would be genuinely useful for you if it was not so creepy (E.g. on-device, deleting footage as it goes)? Or is this one of those things where they just decided people need this while ignoring all of your actual needs? I'm aware answers will probably vary per person

@fullfathomfive "More than half of all people using a phone use accessibility features. Do you really want to exclude half your users?" The amount of websites and apps that I have to turn off large text in order to operate is absolutely bonkers to me. I'm 25, my vision is only gonna get worse, and I'm not even vision impaired. I have the same condition that a shitton of people get as they get older, and not everyone can afford the optometrist and reading glasses. The default text is fucking tiny

@notsoloud @SKleefeld @osma slightly more than the amount of people who were not allowed to register to vote plus the amount who were prevented from voting due to lack of access to absentee ballots + illegal poll closures or lack of access to long lines and a full day off of work. Unless you're counting people whose votes for Kamala Harris were rendered useless by the electoral college or literally thrown out--in which case, most of us. Either way, most of us had no control over that

@contrasocial *incompetent here = never learns shit because they don't need to. It's usually not as much a genetic thing (nor is us being "stupid") as it is a privilege thing. If we get to a point where only the very cruel can survive, cruelty will be the only thing they develop any sort of skill at because they can just use the cruelty to force others to do anything else they need done.

@contrasocial @notsoloud @osma @SKleefeld counterpoint: humanity as a whole isn't evil. Individuals perhaps (and entire classes that can only exist through cruelty, e.g. billionaires), but as a species we are kind, nurturing, and naive; and if we don't do something about those cruel individuals the human species will be forced to evolve into one that is cruel, incompetent, and "barbaric" (I'd sooner use a word less weaponized by colonizers but I can't think of one besides cruel)

@notsoloud @SKleefeld as far as @osma's reply goes, it's not the populace as a whole who has proven we're not trustworthy. Only ~32% of us voted for Trump, which is horrific on its own, but it would have been impossible to elect him without the vote being rigged (if only by the inherent unfairness of the electoral college). Our systems were designed to oppress good people and empower rich people, and that's why the US can never be trustworthy regardless of who we vote for
