Callie's Port, Back Bay, Monreith. The caves here were once hiding places for both smugglers and covenanters. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Galloway #SouthernScotland #History

Some other shots from my walk. Only one has a Pokémon in it. Now the days are longer, I can walk a bit further. And now some days are actually warm, I can #StopAndStare and take close-up #photos. #Scotland #highlands

Today has been really sunny and warm. Which meant I overdid everything and now I'm in leads of pain. But here's one of my photos from my walk, about 10 mins from my door. #photo #sun #trees #nofilter #Scotland #highlands

Baltersan Castle, close to Maybole. A tower house built in 1584 to replace Baltersan House, by the Kennedys. It was abandoned by the mid-18th C. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #SouthernScotland #History

Kirk Oswald, near Maybole in Ayrshire. Named after Oswald of Northumbria, who supposedly won a battle here during the 7th C. The church contains the baptismal font of Robert the Bruce. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #SouthernScotland

Monreith Bay has many a tale to tell. St Medana was miraculously transported here on a floating rock, to found the beautifully atmospheric church of Kirmaiden. One of the oldest churches in Scotland. #Scotland #history #legend #folklore #blackandwhitephotography

The gatehouse of Crossraguel Abbey, near Maybole in Ayrshire. Founded in the 13th century by Duncan, 1st Earl of Carrick. It is halfway between Paisley and Whithorn on the pilgrims' trail to the shrine of St Ninian. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #SouthernScotland

Dunure Castle, Ayrshire. They say that sometimes, you can still hear the screams of Allan Stewart, the Commendator of Crossraguel Abbey, as he was being roasted alive here by the Earl of Cassillis in 1570. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #SouthernScotland

Isle of Skye people... How much Gaelic is spoken routinely? Do you know place names by the English name: e.g. Portree, or Port Righ? And especially where the names are vastly different (like Dingwall on the mainland is Inbhir Pheofharain) which is the most used? Are some areas vastly different? Thanks #Gaelic #Gaidhlig #Skye #Scotland

So I've managed to get throat ulcers, a painful chesty cough and a very sore voice box. The last few days I've done little beyond the absolutely necessary housework. I'm still trying to get out for a walk though. Especially this week, as we have actual sunshine for once. #Bluesky #TheRealBlueSky #Nature #Scotland #Highlands

Nestled deep in the Highland forests of Scotland lies an abandoned Opel Olympia. Trees and undulating ground surround the car; it is a considerable distance from the nearest road. A strange scene, but a beautifully photogenic one. Scotland currently has the largest and most centralised local authorities in Europe, leaving many communities feeling disconnected from the decisions that affect them. I am campaigning to revitalise our local democracy by creating smaller, more localised councils that return power and accountability directly to the towns and neighborhoods they serve. #scotland #eastkilbride

undefined | Indonesia extradites Scottish man sought by Spain as crime boss Indonesia extradited a 45‑year‑old Scottish national, Steven Lyons, to Spain on Wednesday after his removal had been delayed several times while police continued an ongoing investigation. Lyons, described by law‑enforcement as a senior figure in an international crime syndicate, was flown from Bali to Amsterdam and is to be transferred onward to Spain to face charges of drug trafficking and money‑laundering, officials said. Lyons was arrested on 28 March at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali after arriving from Singapore, when Indonesia’s immigration system flagged him through an Interpol Red Notice issued at Spain’s request. He is alleged to be the leader of the “Lyons crime family” and has been on Spain’s wanted list for about two years following a 2024 killing there. Authorities say his transnational network, operating out of Scotland, controlled narcotics routes between Spain and the United Kingdom and laundered proceeds through shell companies across Europe and the Middle East, including in Spain, the United Kingdom, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain and Turkey. Prior to his arrest, coordinated raids in Scotland and Spain led to multiple detentions, and additional suspects were seized in Turkey, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates. Lyons arrived in Bali with two companions who remain on the island, although he claimed to have travelled alone. Media reports note that Lyons survived a 2006 shooting in Glasgow that killed his cousin, later moved to Spain and settled in Dubai, and that his brother and an associate were killed in a suspected gang‑land attack at a beachfront bar in Fuengirola, southern Spain, last year. I shared this #photo with wifey, who is away with NJ right now. She said it looks like the sky is fake. And yeah, it looks like an old version of TerraGen made it. But I added #NoFilters to this photo off our rugged home landscape. #highlands #Scotland

"Seat projections by Professor John Curtice suggest the SNP would get 57 seats, Labour would emerge with 20 and Reform UK would get just 16."
