But ultimately, tools are means to an end—inspiration, possibility, vision, renewal. Apple is the one tech company that actually cares about this—maybe 5%, maybe 1%, certainly far behind profits, marketing, design, logistics. But they do care about it, and that matters.

It’s 3°C here in Vancouver, and I’m watching a hummingbird flitting about the crown of a big conifer a couple of doors down. What it can be eating, at this time of year, I don’t know. No flowers, no active insects, no running sap, nothing. We had a warmer than usual winter, and Anna’s Hummingbird routinely overwinters, I gather, but this is still remarkable.
