@tlayoyo Way back in the 60's, IBM tried to resolve this by using 0 with a dot in the middle, presumably referencing a decimal point to make it clear that it was a number. Sadly, it didn't catch on. AFIK there isn't even a Unicode symbol for it.

@DJDarren As someone who spent many years helping businesses get a website or even just publishing a contact form, the challenge for them is that it invites a tsunami of spam, fraud, phishing, etc. This can be managed, but it takes technical skill that most small businesses don't have or can't afford.
While I disagree with their decision, for a lot of them, building a site or exposing easy contact information just isn't worth it, in both terms of how much revenue it generates and in terms of how much it interferes with customer communications.

For my climate I wish hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were more available, but battery tech is moving at a sufficient pace where a BEV will soon be a viable choice. Meanwhile, we seek to minimize vehicle use and are averaging <1,000 km/month. For a rural area, that's not bad.

A local butter company is running into a legislative barrier. There's a two-tier system in Ontario. Small producers can sell direct to consumers, but not through retail or wholesale channels. the next step up requires a full industrial facility costing millions of dollars, and is only suited to large volume operations.
The Lofty Butter Company (https://loftybutter.ca/) is within 100km of me, makes wonderful butter, but if I want some, I have to drive for the better part of an hour round trip, and unless I have another reason to do that, it ain't happening until I have an EV.

I recently saw an interview with one of these manosphere shits, and the guy says look around you, everything you see was built by men, not women. The fact that the (male) interviewer didn't have a dozen or more counterexamples available from memory really pissed me off. I just discovered that some time ago my newsletter mail provider added a step to the sign-up process without letting me know, which means that sign-ups were silently failing. Gutted that this has possibly cost me between zero and zero new subscribers!

@veronica I forget if this is the third or fourth AI bubble. The first was the Expert Systems one back in the late 1980's. This one is so much bigger and when it pops it will be so much more painful, but once the blood has dried, we can all get back to doing useful things.

@Di4na On a few occasions when faced with a user who demanded a feature/training/etc. I have expressed regret that it hasn't worked out and offered them a full refund... if they could be so kind as to send a copy of their receipt I'd be happy to send the refund out straight away.
