I tried to make this point on a message board once (in fairness, I was foolishly engaging with someone I already knew has a raging case of Never Been Wrong on the Internet Syndrome) and dude got SO MAD at me. FURIOUS that I was "denying the science" when I am literally a scientist who was explaining one of the confounders that inherently limits the interpretability of the science.

It also interferes with getting healthcare for these issues, because doctors grow up in the same society everyone else does.
I'm not claiming that obesity would not have these consequences in the absence of fatphobia. I don't know that. NO ONE DOES. We can't, without having done the experiment, which no one has ever done.
I don't have solutions to propose here, exactly, except to always question your assumptions and try to be kind and decent. That can't hurt.

And macroaggressions, sure. Mean comments. Rejection. But even beyond that, there's the trouble finding clothes that fit. The looks. The deliberate and sometimes performative non-looks.
All of this is stressful. Stress raises certain hormone levels. It suppresses your immune system. It raises your blood pressure. It's bad for your heart.
It causes … basically all of the medically identified "health consequences of obesity." (…)

I wanna talk a TINY bit about the health consequences of obesity.
We don't know what they are!
All of evidence-based Western medicine (which identified and quantified certain correlates of obesity in health metrics and outcomes) has happened in a fat-phobic society. People who have lost a LOT of weight have reported feeling bitter about suddenly being treated like human beings worthy of respect.

Folks, I'm not okay.
