I've decided... I'm really kind of upset. I bought #Downcast for #Mac thinking it'd work. It doesn't. At present, the latest version on the latest MacOS results in the app freezing any time I go to settings to sync via the cloud or change anything. Sitting with it eats through memory until the Mac says noe and literally makes me close out of it because there's no more memory. I haven't found any other cross-platfor app that isn't subscription based apart from that one... And even that one just... isn't anymore. Help?

Apple have committed a number of self-owns lately, but most self-respecting developers still try their best to adhere to certain standards regarding the Mac user experience.
@1Password, on the other hand, have taken it upon themselves to ignore the user's specified highlight colour and just make it blue. The stated reason for this is so that it provides 'a more consistent and polished experience across all platforms, ensuring that 1Password looks and feels the same whether you're using it on your Mac, Windows PC, or in your browser'. Decide for yourself how believable this sounds.
The jarring visual dissonance that occurs when this bright blue thing pops up when you need to enter a password has to be experienced to be believed.
Bad enough that they're jumping onto the 'AI' bandwagon, but this level of ignorance on the part of a major developer about the macOS user experience is stunning. They can fix this or lose at least this customer.

For many people, the #Linux vs #Windows vs #Mac debate is a privilege — it assumes you can choose. But working with the Computer Upcycle Project, I've seen the real choice is often Linux vs no computer at all.
~95% of donated computers are "too old" for Windows 11 or macOS. Linux installs on them anyway, adding 10+ years of life to machines #Microsoft and #Apple called trash.
This isn't Linux vs Windows. It's Linux vs e-waste.
