This campaign means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. The #UK Department for #Transport has launched a consultation on proposals to introduce mandatory eyesight testing for drivers aged 70 and over in Great #Britain. The plans would replace the current self-declaration system, under which drivers renewing their licence at 70 and every three years thereafter confirm they meet the legal eyesight standard and disclose relevant medical conditions. The consultation, open until 11 May 2026, seeks views on when testing should begin, how often it should take place and who should carry it out. Options include using standard #NHS sight tests or a driving-specific assessment, with costs potentially met by drivers, government or shared. The move aims to improve road safety as the number of older drivers rises and age-related eye conditions become more common. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/introducing-mandatory-eyesight-testing-for-older-drivers/introducing-mandatory-eyesight-testing-for-older-drivers

Zac Polanski has written to Wes Streeting: 'I know that you have had a close relationship with Peter Mandelson & I will be seeking through every means at our disposal to establish whether there have been any personal, formal or informal contacts with Peter Mandelson or his lobbying company between yourself, other ministers and Department of Health or NHS England officials on behalf of Palantir'! Im about to have another free vaccination. The NHS finally realised I had a significant birthday a few weeks ago and told me to ask my GP for it. I'd have preferred to have had it before I went away last week, but couldn't face chasing my GP who'd refused to give me a couple of vaccinations I should be able to get last year. Insisted they weren't available for my age group even though the NHS site stated they are, and friends had them. I did check with the vaccine trial I'm on that I can have it. Meanwhile, home help's child is ill yet again. Her first year of nursery is not going well so the more protection I get the better, for me at least. #NHS

So the UK has agreed to raise the price it pays for US-supplied medicines as part of a deal to avoid tariffs on UK pharmaceutical exports to the USA.... but the Treasury is not allowing for this price rise in its NHS budgetary settlement. So, its one more mechanism to transfer NHS spending to the private sector while worsening the budget pressures on the health service. Resident Doctors might also ask: if you can find £1.5bn for this, where's our money? #NHS #pharmaceuticals #politics h/t FT

The Bear, on the continuing failure to address the social care crisis & its impact on the NHS: 'Flu is here five weeks early this year. The politics are decades out of date. Unless something changes very soon - loudly & unapologetically - this winter will not be the worst we’ve ever seen. It will be the winter that snapped the NHS in half'! And if the NHS really does 'snap' this winter, Labour will not be able to place all the blame on the Tories! #health #NHS https://www.bearlypolitics.co.uk/p/the-punishment-model-of-government
