Everyone acts like Mark Carney is the brilliant saviour, bringing his central banking knowledge back to Canada to save our economy. But what is forgotten in that statement is that Canada had a pretty good economy before Globalization. Globalization was built on the premise that corporations (an d countries) could only survive if they continued growing every year. You don't have to tell a kid with a bag of halloween candy that a plan like that isn't sustainable. Or maybe you do have to tell a kid, but you don't need to be a central banker to know that resources are needed for never ending growth and those resources are limited on a relatively little blue ball floating out in space.
But way back, when they were talking free trade and globalization in Canada, there was a party that looked down the road and predicted 2026. They saw how it would create inequalities, how it would impact climate and communities, how it would hurt us in the long run.
That party was the NDP. The party of universal healthcare.
